Poppy Mandala and Acanthus Leaf Tattoo

Acanthus leaf is one of my favorite elements to put into my tattoos, i think ever since i saw this image,

I have been captivated by it, i first saw it used extensively in tattoos by Alex Binnie, as always with his work his use of it was amazing.

You can see his work here

I have tried to do something different with it and create something that is my own.

Acanthus ornaments appear extensively in the capitals of the Corinthian and Composite architectural orders. Ancient Greek culture was the first to use the ornament, elaborated by the Romans with the ends of the leaves curled. The design continued in popularity in the Byzantine, Romanesque, Gothic and Victorian architecture. As you can see it is still favored today.

I have some really interesting ideas for large scale work, back pieces, sleeves and torso, hopefully i will get some time to draw them up and post them on here.

I was just talking to my wife about tattoo ideas and saying…hey I wonder if Hooper has ever done a poppy mandala because I wanted to add one to one of my ideas…and today its up. Looks great! The acanthus are always cool too.
